Fall 2009 Homer's Odyssey $49 or open amount*

In the fall of 2009, we'll run another phone-based Homer reading group for those who would like the Reading Odyssey reading experience of this great epic. Special thanks to Reading Odyssey sponsors Citrix Online and their HiDefConferencing division.

Moderated by the wonderful Pat Wictor, the reading group will meet Mondays Oct 5, Nov 2 and Dec 7 at 8pm ET, 5pm Pacific via phone. The conference call number will be supplied to all who register.

Pat will use the custom Reading Odyssey method to make it a good experience and help first-time readers engage the text.

Reading Odyssey Process

- readers will read a section of the Odyssey each month assigned by Pat with reading questions
- then get on the phone to discuss the reading (and the reading questions assigned by Pat)
- each phone call is recorded and the .mp3 is made available to the readers who missed it
- Pat is also available via e-mail during the month to answer questions - and members are encouraged to use the group e-mail listserv and blog to discuss the reading

We'll be using the Stanley Lombardo translation. It's available at Amazon or can be borrowed through your local library using the Reading Odyssey website directory of U.S. libraries - http://borrowabook.org.

First-time readers can choose an amount?

First-time readers for this group with Pat Wictor have the opportunity to participate at a level they can afford - from $5 to $49. 

Veterans pay $49 because they have already participated in one Reading Odyssey reading group and they want to help cover administrative costs. The Reading Odyssey is an informal organization that is currently in the process of becoming a formal nonprofit but does not yet have that status. In any case, payments for reading groups are not and will not be tax deductible (as they are fee for service).
